North Atlantic Industries Expands their Rugged, COTS-Based Application-Ready Systems with New Nano Remote Data Concentrators

BOHEMIA, NY – October 2019 -- North Atlantic Industries, Inc. (NAI), a leading supplier of embedded computing solutions and power supplies, has leveraged its modular and adaptable Configurable Open Systems Architecture ™ (COSA®) and Nano Interface Units (NIU) to introduce application-ready Nano Remote Data Concentrators. With an extremely small footprint of 7.0” x 3.0” x 2.5” and weighing less than 3 lbs. these small, low-power units deliver off-the-shelf solutions that accelerate deployment of SWaP-optimized systems — in less time, with NO NRE.

The NIU is designed to consolidate inputs from systems and sensors and distribute them via a dual channel 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet network in the smallest package available. These systems provide network-centric capable local host processing, I/O, communications and utilities functions, several boxes and hundreds of pounds of cable can be eliminated.

The NRDC-3000 is a preconfigured rugged system using a high-performance, low power Dual Core ARM® Cortex®-A9 processor with Xilinx® PetaLinux OS, Wind River VxWorks 6.9 or DDC-I Deos support. Using two smart function modules it is ideally suited to support a multitude of avionics and data concentration applications that require high-density, multichannel, programmable communications consisting of: eight (8) programmable RS-232/422/485 serial channels, Dual-Channel Dual-Redundant MIL-STD-1553 BC, RT & MT and eight (8) ARINC 429/575 interface channels, individually programmable for either Tx or Rx. All communication library Software Support Kits (SSKs) are supplied at no cost, including source code.

Need to change functions? With COSA®, smart function modules can easily be interchanged based on design requirements without affecting the design of the overall system, resulting in reduced design risk and streamlined development. A complete list of I/O, communications, measurement and simulation smart functions can be found at https://www.naii.com/functions/.

“Customers desired the NIU1A to easily interface to changing payload requirements without having to redesign existing platform systems.” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing. “The NIU2A expands on the success of the NIU1A, doubling function support in the smallest footprint in the industry.”

NAI is a leading independent supplier of embedded computing, Input/Output, communications, measurement, simulation, power and systems products for commercial, industrial and military applications built on a Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®). COSA offers the greatest modularity, flexibility, adaptability and configurability in the industry that accelerates our customers’ time-to-mission. COSA supports a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) that delivers the best of both worlds: custom solutions from COTS components with No NRE. For over 50 years, companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon have leveraged NAI’s capabilities to meet the demanding requirements of a wide range of processing, I/O and communication-centric applications, and do so with uncompromising quality, efficiency and responsiveness.
