BOHEMIA, NY – September 2026 -- North Atlantic Industries (NAI), a leading supplier of rugged embedded computing solutions, is pleased to announce that its Configurable Open System Architecture (COSA®) SIU32S Rugged COTS System, featuring NAI’s 68INT6 3U OpenVPX™ Single Board Computer, has been selected by Hermeus to serve as the Flight Management Computer (FMC) for Quarterhorse MK 2.3.
The selection of the SIU32S provides Hermeus with a rugged, integrated computing platform designed to support the demanding processing, I/O, and communications requirements of modern airborne systems. Built around NAI’s Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®), the SIU32S is a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA), SOSA™-aligned platform that combines high-performance processing with configurable, expandable, adaptable and modular I/O and communications capabilities in a compact, SWaP-optimized system.
“NAI is proud to support Hermeus with a rugged computing solution for this important application,” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing at NAI. “The selection of the SIU32S demonstrates how our modular COTS approach can deliver the processing performance, flexibility, and reliability required for demanding applications while helping customers accelerate their time to mission.”
At the core of the selected configuration is NAI’s 68INT6 3U OpenVPX™ SOSA™-aligned Single Board Computer, powered by an 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7 Tiger Lake processor. The 68INT6 provides high-performance embedded processing with up to 64 GB of DDR4 memory and up to 512 GB of SATA III NAND flash storage, with support for Gigabit Ethernet with PTP, programmable ARINC-429, and asynchronous RS-232/422/485 serial communications, along with support for a broad range of real-time operating systems. Integrated within the SIU32S, the 68INT6 provides the processing foundation for flight management functions, while the system’s configurable architecture supports integration with the aircraft’s broader I/O and communications requirements.
Designed for demanding military and aerospace environments, the SIU32S supports conduction-cooled operation from -40°C to +71°C at the baseplate and is designed to meet applicable MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and MIL-STD-704 requirements. Its modular architecture also supports more than 100 available COSA® smart I/O, communications, and Ethernet switching functions, enabling system configurations to be tailored to specific platform requirements.
NAI’s selection as the Flight Management Computer supplier reflects the company’s continued role in supporting advanced aerospace platforms with rugged, configurable embedded computing solutions. By combining field-proven COTS technology with an open, modular architecture, NAI helps customers reduce integration complexity, address evolving system requirements, and accelerate deployment of mission-critical capabilities.
NAI’s family of highly configurable Rugged COTS Systems are ideally suited for defense, commercial aerospace, and industrial applications that require high-density I/O, communications, Ethernet switching, and processing for mission-critical tasks such as communications, guidance, sense and response, data acquisition and motion control. The simplified, modular approach of our Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) enables us to use the same building blocks across multiple platforms and programs, making it possible for you to develop semi-custom solutions quickly, without NRE, while retaining all the benefits of COTS products.
