NAI “Switches Up” Rugged Embedded Computing with 10 GB Fiber Optic & 1 GB Copper Ethernet Switch, Multifunction I/O & Communications Interfaces

BOHEMIA, NY – September 2021 -- North Atlantic Industries, Inc. (NAI), a leading supplier of embedded computing solutions and power supplies, is introducing the NIU3E rugged nano interface unit. The NIU3E is a SWaP-optimized, self-contained processing, ethernet switching and multifunction I/O system preconfigured with 2-CH Redundant MIL-STD-1553, 8-CH ARINC 429/575, 4-CH CAN bus; CAN A/B 2.0, CAN-FD, ARINC-825 & 24-CH programmable Discrete I/O functions. The NIU3E incorporates an Ethernet switch module that offers four (4) 10GBase-SR multimode fiber optic ports and sixteen (16) 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports. The Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) enables the NIU3E to be configured with one smart function modules from over 70 pre-integrated Analog and Digital I/O, Position, Timing, Measurement/Simulation and Communications smart functions.

Ideally suited for rugged Mil-Aero applications, the NIU3E is low power, offers a small footprint of 7.2” x 6.6” x 3.0” and weighs less than 6.5 lbs. The NIU3E boasts a Dual or Quad Core ARM -A53 processor for customer applications, I/O and communications management and is configured with two 10/100/1000Base-T (GbE) Ethernet ports and an RS-232 port for maintenance / diagnostic or configuration interface. Xilinx® PetaLinux OS, Wind River VxWorks 7.x and DDC-I Deos support continuing NAI’s commitment of a safety critical DO-178C and DO-254 certification support. Support of FIPS-140-3 security level 3 options are available, please contact NAI for more details.

“The NIU3E expands on the success of NAI’s NIU3A, offering processing, high density I/O, communication with the flexibility, adaptability and modularity that has been standard to larger footprint systems.” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing. “Integrating Ethernet switching capabilities at up to 10 GB makes the NIU3E the ideal solution for reduced SWaP-C solutions.”

NAI is a leading independent supplier of embedded computing, Input/Output, communications, measurement, simulation, power and systems products for commercial, industrial and military applications built on a Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®). COSA offers the greatest modularity, flexibility, adaptability and configurability in the industry that accelerates our customers’ time-to-mission. COSA supports a Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) that delivers the best of both worlds: custom solutions from COTS components with No NRE. For over 50 years, companies like Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon have leveraged NAI’s capabilities to meet the demanding requirements of a wide range of processing, I/O and communication-centric applications, and do so with uncompromising quality, efficiency and responsiveness.
