BOHEMIA, NY – April 2021 -- North Atlantic Industries, Inc. (NAI), a leading supplier of embedded computing solutions and power supplies, introduces the NIU3A rugged nano interface unit. The NIU3A is a SWaP-optimized, self-contained processing and multifunction I/O system preconfigured with 24-CH programmable Discrete I/O, 8-CH ARINC 429/575, 4-CH CAN bus (supports CAN 2.0A/B, ARINC 825 or CAN FD protocols) and 2-CH redundant MIL-STD-1553 communications functions. In addition, the Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) enables the NIU3A to be configured with up to three smart function modules from a selection of over 70 Analog and Digital I/O, Position, Timing, Measurement/Simulation and Communications smart functions.
The NIU3A is low power, offers a small footprint of 7.2” x 5.65” x 3.25” (est.) and weighs less than 6 lbs. The NIU3A boasts Dual or Quad ARM Cortex®-A53 processors for customer software applications. It is configured with two 10/100/1000BASE-T (GbE) Ethernet ports and an RS-232 port for maintenance / diagnostic or configuration interface. Xilinx® PetaLinux, Wind River VxWorks 7.x or VxWorks HVP and DDC-I Deos RTOS support continues NAI’s commitment of a safety critical DO-178C and DO-254 certification support path.
“The configurability, adaptability, and flexibility of the NIU3A with three COSA module slots plus integrated I/O and communications, make it the ideal DO-178C and DO-254 DAL A certifiable system or subsystem solution for the digital backbone on Future Vertical Lift FARA and FLRAA programs,” said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing. “With optional support for FIPS-140-3 Level 3 cybersecurity and deterministic Time-Triggered Ethernet (TTE) or Time Sensitive Network (TSN).”
