North Atlantic Industries Introduces NIU3R Compact Mission Computer for SWaP-Constrained Platforms

BOHEMIA, NY – June 2026 -- North Atlantic Industries, Inc. (NAI), a leading provider of rugged embedded electronics for the defense, industrial, and commercial aerospace markets, announces the release of the NIU3R, a compact, rugged mission computer and integrated I/O system designed for SWaP-constrained aerospace and defense platforms.

Engineered as a self-contained line-replaceable unit (LRU), the NIU3R combines mission processing, multifunction I/O, and communications interfaces within a single rugged enclosure, helping reduce integration complexity, minimize external hardware requirements, and optimize platform space utilization. Its compact round form factor and flat interface surfaces enable efficient installation within cylindrical or space-limited vehicle structures, making it well suited for next-generation airborne and defense applications.

The NIU3R leverages NAI’s proven Configurable Open Systems Architecture™ (COSA®) technology through a fixed inboard I/O architecture that integrates smart-function capabilities directly into the system electronics. This approach delivers a reliable, deterministic processing platform while supporting mission-specific adaptability. The system integrates a broad range of platform interfaces, including discrete I/O, serial communications, pulse timing resources, MIL-STD-1760 connectivity, and Gigabit Ethernet networking.

Powered by a Xilinx Zynq® UltraScale+™ MPSoC, the NIU3R supports real-time data processing, deterministic interface control, and secure system architectures through an integrated hardware root-of-trust capability. The platform is ideal for mission computing, avionics subsystem control, embedded data acquisition, and system health monitoring applications.
