BOHEMIA, NY – March 2023 -- North Atlantic Industries, Inc. (NAI), a leading supplier of embedded computing solutions and power supplies, is thrilled to announce its first Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE™) certification milestone with the Serial I/O Services Segment (IOSS) Unit of Conformance (UoC). This is the first of many certifications as NAI takes the software behind its modular COSA® Architecture through the FACE certification process. Other products are already in the pipeline for certification this quarter.
The FACE Consortium is a collaborative effort between the US government and industry stakeholders to establish open standards for avionics software, allowing for more efficient development and integration of airborne systems. With FACE certification, NAI's Serial IOSS UoC is now compliant with the FACE Technical Standard, ensuring interoperability with other FACE-conformant systems and reducing overall development and integration costs.
The NAI Serial IOSS UoC is a rugged, compact subsystem designed to switch serial communication lines between multiple devices in aerospace and defense applications. "We are proud to have achieved FACE certification for our serial modules, and this is just the beginning," said Lino Massafra, VP of Sales and Marketing at North Atlantic Industries. "Our commitment to providing our customers with the most reliable and interoperable solutions for their aerospace and defense applications is unwavering."
NAI has been a member of the FACE Consortium since 2014 and has actively contributed to the development of the FACE Technical Standard. The certification of the Serial IOSS UoC demonstrates NAI's ongoing dedication to supporting open architecture initiatives in the avionics industry. Stay tuned for more exciting FACE-certified products in the weeks ahead.
NAI’s serial communication smart function modules provide up to 8 high-speed, programmable RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, non-isolated communication channels. Each channel is programmable for either Serial Communications (SC) protocol or General Purpose I/O (GPIO) modes as either RS-422/485 (differential) or RS-232 (single ended) hardware level interfaces. Each channel has one Transmit and one Receive signal pair (±) available as applicable. Synchronous (SYNC) communications mode (added feature) automatically configures the clock (clk) signal(s) on the companion pair channel: CH1-CH4 clk companion channels are CH5-CH8, respectively.
